Alexander Thomas “Alex” Watters, age 22 of Bowler, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, January 3, 2023.
Alex was born February 21, 2000, in Shawano, Wisconsin, son of Thomas and Terri (Koehler) Watters. He was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church Town of Morris. Alex attended Bowler school, graduating from Bowler High School in 2018. While in high school, he played the trumpet and coronet in the school band. Alex also performed a duet at the Solo and Ensemble competition. Following high school, he was employed at Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats in Wittenberg. Alex had multiple responsibilities at Nueske’s and was currently working with the sanitation department. He also worked as a tree trimmer with his Uncle Kricket.
Alex is a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Town of Morris. He was an avid Harley rider and would ride any chance he had. He also rode with many benefit rides. Alex never missed the Carley Auction in Marion. He enjoyed deer hunting with his father and ice fishing; however, Alex was a more successful hunter with his vehicles than in the field. He worked as a flag man at numerous off-road races where he picked up the nickname, “Fabio.” Alex was a hard worker with a great sense of humor. He was extremely outgoing, and loved to spend time with his family, extended family, and friends!
Survivors include his parents, Tom and Terri Watters of Bowler; his brother, Carson (Maria) Watters of Red River; his soulmate, Abby Owens of Wittenberg, and her daughter, Ivy; his nephew, Ryatt Watters; his paternal grandfather, Larry (Mary) Watters of NC; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Watters of Shawano; his best girl, Lizzie, a black Labrador retriever; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends with whom he enjoyed spending time. Alex was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leonard and Ida Koehler; and three uncles, Ronnie, Allen, and Wayne Koehler.
A funeral service for Alex will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Pastor John Hielsberg will officiate. The burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Town of Morris. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, a memorial fund will be established in the name of Alex Watters.
