Obituary for Allan R. "Al" Giese

Allan R. “Al” Giese, age 71 of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at his home on Kelly Lake.

Al was born July 7, 1951, in Oconto Falls, a son of the late Albert and Mary Ann (Gudwer) Giese. He attended the Sunny Slope Country School near Gillett, then was a student at Shawano High School, graduating with the Class of 1969. Following high school, Al enrolled at UW-Madison. He worked at the Lunds Cheese Factory until it closed in 1999. He also bartended at various places before purchasing the Blue Moon Saloon in the Town of Waukechon in 1984. Al owned and operated the saloon until retiring on May 20, 2020, at which time he moved to Kelly Lake.

He loved live music, concerts, and online auctions, as he was an avid collector of unique items. Al happily spent the last 27 years with his significant other, Dorothy Tomko-Wilke, by his side. The couple traveled extensively, making memories, and covering many miles. He was a lifetime member of the Kelly Lake Sportsman’s Club, and the Shawano County Tavern League, and had been a member of the Lunds Snowbirds. Al made many good friends over the years, which started out as clients.

Survivors include his son, Jason Giese of DePere; his daughter, Amanda (Paul) Routhieaux of Green Bay; two brothers, Daniel, and Jonathan Giese, both of Lunds; two grandchildren, Nadia and Michael Rothieaux of Howard; his soulmate and running partner, Dorothy Tomko-Wilke of Kelly Lake; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

An open house will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano.
