Obituary for Brenda L. Kohel

Brenda L. Kohel, age 57 of Bowler, began her journey to the Spirit World on Friday morning, January 27, 2023, at her home.

Brenda was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 29, 1965, a daughter of the late Anthony and Shirley (LaMotte) Kohel. She grew up in Chicago before moving to Neopit where she attended school. Brenda later went to the Flandreau Boarding School in South Dakota. She was employed for many years at the Oneida Casino, the Northstar Casino, and the HoChunk Casino. Road Trips, Bingo and a good game of Poker were some of Brenda’s favorite hobbies. Brenda loved doing beadwork and exploring in the woods. She was passionate about the beauty of wolves. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, especially hull corn soup and meat pies, and spending time with her grandkids. Brenda was also an avid Packer fan.

Survivors include her daughter, Josephine Lyons of Green Bay; ten grandchildren, Mario, Anthony, Tehya, Caleb, Christara, Jayce, J’Leeyiah, Jaystin, Justin, Jr., and Neveah; her fiancé, Michael Mohawk, Jr.; her brothers, Tony Kohel of Green Bay and Jeffery (LeeAnn) Wychesit; her sister, Crystal Whitcraft; her aunt, Barbara LaMotte; three lifelong friends, Dorothy Neosh, Robin Maskewit, Tonia Wilber, and Sandra “TuTu” Jesko; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Justin, Sr.; and two sisters, Madeline Kohel and Faye Kohel.

A Mass for Brenda will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Fr. Felix will be the Celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church on Friday at 9:00 am.
