Obituary for Cherylene A. Wilber

Cherylene A. Wilber “Wapanoh Mataehmoh” age 72 of Keshena, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday evening, April 13, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

Cherylene was born in Keshena on December 10, 1950, a daughter of Martin and Marie (Tucker) Wilber. She attended school in Shawano, graduating with the Class of 1969. Following high school, Cherylene moved to Chicago and returned to Keshena in the early 1970’s. She worked as an administrative assistant for the tribe, then Menominee County, and later the College of Menominee Nation until her retirement in 2013. Cherylene loved visiting the casino, woodworking, playing cards, and spending time with her family and loved ones.

Survivors include her children, Wayne (Colette) Wilber and Nicole (Justin) White, both of Keshena; eight grandchildren, Jaryd (Sharon Labarge) Wilber, Ra’el Wilber, Taelynn O’Kimosh, Katelyn Wilber, Tristen White, Hillary White, Karleigha White, and Silas White; two great-grandchildren, Scarlett Wilber, and Seneca Wilber; her siblings, Joyln Whitney of Keshena, Allen (Pam) Wilber of Appleton, Warren Wilber, Sr., Martina Frechette, Renita (Roger) Corn, Richard (Juanita) Wilber, and Daryl (Marcene Barnes) Wilber, and Lynette (David) Turney, all of Keshena; her godchildren, Glenda (Mitch) Metoxen, and Roger Corn, Jr.; her sister-in-law, Dawn Wilber; two special sisters, Carrie Corn Skenadore, and LeeAnn Corn; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Cherylene was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Lois; her sister, Loretta Lawrence; her brother, Elmer Wilber; and the love of her life, Alex Lepscier.

A funeral Mass for Cherylene will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. Fr. Hans Christian will be the celebrant. Visitation will begin on Sunday, April 16, 2023, after 5:00 pm at the Fr. David Barrett Hall at St. Michael’s and continue until the time of Mass. A parish wake service will be conducted at the Hall on Monday evening, April 17, 2023, at 6:00 pm.
