Obituary for Christopher E. "Chris" Schelk
Christopher E. “Chris” Schelk, age 28 of Shawano, passed away Sunday morning, July 17, 2022, in Shawano following a brief struggle with cancer.
Chris was born in Sheboygan on December 12, 1993, a son of Charyl (Rommelfaenger-Schultz) Schelk and the late Arthur Schelk. In 1994, the family moved to Gillett where they lived until moving to Shawano. Chris graduated from Shawano High School with the Class of 2012. He was employed at Zeise Construction for many years until he started his own construction company, Schelk Construction, shortly before he got sick.
Chris was a carpenter and mechanic and was always available to help others fix whatever needed fixing. He was proficient in all phases of construction, loved woodworking, and was an avid fisherman. Chris had numerous nicknames that followed him through his life including “Carpenter Chris”, “Christina”, and “Kringle”. He was an amazing spouse to Samantha and a loving father to his children.
Survivors include his sons and special buddies, Xavier, and Zyad Schelk; the mother of his children, Samantha Welch of Shawano; his mother, Charyl Schelk of Shawano; his sister Amber Schultz of Shawano; his grandmother, Rose Rommelfaenger of Shawano; his aunt, Donna Rommelfaenger of Racine; and his uncle, Scott Rommelfaenger of Shawano. Chris is further survived by his paternal aunts, LaRue King and Barb Lindsay, both of Sheboygan; two nephews, John, and Adam Ziese; and his best friends, Jeff, DeeJay, Jack, Luke, and Denny. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; his maternal grandfather, Raymond Rommelfaenger; and his paternal grandparents, Edward and Virginia Schelk.
A time to gather and celebrate Christopher’s life will take place on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano.
