Obituary for Dale L. Konkel

Dale L. Konkel, age 77 of the Town of Belle Plaine, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, June 18, 2021 at ThedaCare Medical Center-Appleton.

Dale was born September 26, 1943 in Shawano, a son of the late Lesley L. and Beulah Mae (Empereur) Konkel. He attended grade school in Tilleda, and graduated from Bowler High School. Following high school, Dale attended Badger Business College in Green Bay. While there he met his wife of 56 years, Louise DeDecker. The couple was married on August 15, 1964 at St. John Lutheran Church in Marion.

Dale was employed in every department at Eagle Knitting Mills in Shawano, where he worked for 36 years. When Eagle Knitting Mills closed Dale went to work at Walmart in Shawano, where he worked in the sporting goods department until retiring in 2010. Dale has been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano since 1972. He was an avid gardener and landscaper. He was a “weather bug” and loved keeping track of and recording weather conditions year after year. In his younger years, Dale enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers. He liked keeping busy, and “putzing” with everything.

Survivors include his wife, Louise, of the Town of Belle Plaine; his children, Christine Engelhardt of DePere, and Adam Konkel of the Town of Belle Plaine; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Spencer Engelhardt of the Town of Pella; his brothers, Steven (Linda) Konkel of Wausau, Russell (Barbara) Konkel of Shawano, twins Wayne (Jackie) Konkel of Weston and Dean (Cheryl) Konkel of Tilleda; his brother-in-law, Robert DeDecker of Vulcan, MI; and three nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Dale will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Scott Ludford will officiate. Interment will take place in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Pella. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:30 AM and continue until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church in Dale’s name.
