Obituary for Daniel D. "Boone" Shawanokasic

Daniel D. “Boone” Shawanokasic, age 40 of Keshena, started his journey to the Spirit World following a lengthy illness on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

Daniel was born in Shawano on May 14, 1982, a son of Daniel Shawanokasic, Sr., and Linda Heath. He attended and graduated from the Menominee Indian School District. Following high school, he worked for the Menominee Tribe as a food distributor in the warehouse. He married the former Alex Dixon.

Daniel was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. He enjoyed the special times he shared with his kids. Daniel was an avid baseball player, playing for both Menominee and Marion BABA and was a grand champion with the Marion Meisters. He was a fan of the Brewers, Packers, and the Badgers Daniel loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, or cutting wood, and spending time at the lake lot and riding in the woods.

Survivors include his wife, Alex Dixon Shawanokasic of Keshena; his children, Rhama and Leroy Shawanokasic of Keshena; his mother, Linda Heath of Keshena; his father, Daniel (Margo) Shawanokasic, Sr. of Neopit; his siblings, Aaron Shawanokasic of Keshena, Paul Wilber, Jr. of Keshena, Paula Wilber of Keshena, Bernard Wilber of Appleton, Mary Shawanokasic of Keshena, and special brother, Joel Fish of Keshena; his step-sisters, Autumn and Bobbi Denny, both of Keshena; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. Visitation will begin on Sunday, August 14, 2022, after 4:00 pm at the Neopit Community Center until the final viewing at 9:00 am on Tuesday. A parish wake service is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Monday, August 15, 2022, at the Community Center.
