After that she began working as a housekeeper at the Wisconsin House Inn, working her way up to head housekeeper and then managing the hotel.

On September 28, 1996, Dorothy was united in marriage to William C. Hagemann at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple owned and operated the Wisconsin House in Shawano for nearly ten years. Dorothy is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano. She loved growing up on a farm which led to her hobbies including genealogy, her grandkids, flowers (she loved roses), gardening, and watching wildlife.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Hagemann of Shawano; her children, Jim (Kelly) Strauss of Shawano, and their children, Jim Jr. (fiancé Lindsey), and Amanda (fiancé Rick); Dan (Carmen) Strauss of Shawano, Tony (Beth) Strauss of Green Bay, and their daughter, Emily; and Kylee (Jimmy Lee) Jones of Shawano, and their children, Jordan, Leland, Hunter, Garrett, Evan, and Carter; her great-grandchildren, Connor Ethan, Aisha, Lucy, Bristol, Westly, and Kinley; her sister, Janalee Strauss of New London; her sister-in-law, Ella (Jerry) Decker of Fennville, MI; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
