Obituary for Elmira J. Waupoose

Elmira J. Waupoose, age 81 of Neopit, started her journey to the Spirit World on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at her home.

Elmira was born in Keshena on June 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Boivin) Caldwell. She attended school in Antigo, then worked as a seamstress at the Oshkosh B’gosh Factory. On October 31, 1959, she was united in marriage to Everette Waupoose at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. The couple lived in Milwaukee, Oshkosh, and for many years in Neopit. Everette preceded her in death in March of 2003.

Elmira worked in the finance department for the Menominee Tribe. She is a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. She loved to play bingo and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her five children, Emmy Corn of Neopit, Lori (Dean Sr.) Waupoose of Keshena, Patricia (Anthony) Sparks of Neopit, Everette Waupoose, Jr. of Neopit, and Romilda (Clifford) Madosh of Neopit; seventeen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Maryann Helsinger of Keshena; her brother, Joseph (Helene) Caldwell, Jr. of Keshena; her godson, Brian Helsinger, Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Kaquatosh, and her great-granddaughter, Hope Menore.

A Funeral Mass for Elmira will be celebrated on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. Fr. Timothy Machila will be the Celebrant. The burial will take place in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Neopit Community Center beginning after 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, and continue until the time of Mass on Thursday. A Parish Wake Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the Community Center.
