Fredric L. “Fred” Hoffman, age 86 of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at The Pines in Embarrass, due to a farm accident.

Fred was born in Shawano on December 26, 1935, a son of the late Melvin and Florence (Martzke) Hoffman. As a youngster, he grew up on the family farm in Belle Plaine. The family then moved to a farmette just north of Shawano. Fred graduated from Shawano High School with the Class of 1954. In 1964, Fred graduated from Total Data Processing Program at Manpower Business Training Institute (MBTI) in Milwaukee. Following his graduation, he was employed with the Elm Tree Bakery in Appleton as a programmer. Fred then worked at Midwest Breeders, now CRI, as a computer programmer, then went to work at Birch Hill Health Care as an orderly. Following his computer career, Fred began farming on his own. Fred is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. He will be remembered as a very caring and loving brother, uncle, and great-uncle, as well as an animal lover.

Survivors include his siblings, Judy (Howard) Anker, Sue Miller, Sharon Gillette, Virginia Abraham, Mike Hoffman, Peter (Judy) Hoffman, and Patty Ellison; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; his beloved furry friends; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis and Mary Hoffman, and Fred and Mary Martzke, and his brothers, William, and Jeffrey Hoffman.

A funeral service for Fred will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Deacon James Lonick will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until the service at 11:00 am. Entombment will take place in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Full military honors will be conducted by AmVets Post 10.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers donations to the Shawano County Humane Society in Fred’s name.

“Fred’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah for their compassion and care.”
