Obituary for Gary W. Springborn
Gary W. Springborn, age 81 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, February 2, 2023, at his home.
Gary was born in Shawano on April 6, 1941, a son of Ralph and Jeanette (Page) Springborn. He grew up in Thornton on the family farm. Gary attended school in Shawano, graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of 1959. He met the love of his life, Rita Kort, in 1958 and they were united in marriage on September 17, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano.
Gary was self-employed most of his life. From a young age he had a passion for racing and was often seen wheeling around the #61 stock car at the Shawano Speedway in the 1960’s. His love of the sport was passed on to three generations of drivers including his two sons, Troy and Michael, his grandson AJ, and his great-granddaughter, Lyla. He enjoyed supervising his sons and grandson at the Speedway. Gary also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his brother, Bill.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rita of Shawano; his children, Terri (John Stewart) Springborn, Linda Springborn, Toni (Dohn) Dallmann, Troy (Jill) Springborn, and Andrew (Heather Friedrich) Springborn, all of Shawano, Jamie (Ron Berna) Springborn of Abrams, and Michael (Danielle Sousek) Springborn of Shawano; his grandchildren, Jesse, Adam, Justin, Mariah, Bryan, Chase, Robert, Nicholas, Joseph, Travis, Zachery, Andrea, Kayla, AJ, Serina Gabriella, Gavin , Tammara, Danielle, Kaitlynn, Madison, Alexis, Jason, Trinity, and Ajay; 26 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Patsy Schroeder of Shawano and Jackie (Walter) DuPont of Menominee Falls; his brother-in-law, William Kort of Appleton; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ready and Gayle Springborn of Shawano; his godchild, Joni (Mailahn) Kosnicki of Shawano; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Springborn; his parents, Ralph and Jeanette Springborn; his brother, William Springborn; his sisters, Lois Schmidt and Sandra Springborn; his brothers-in-law, David Schroeder, Art Schmidt, Joe Ready, and Andrew Pelkofer; his sister-in-law, Marion Beaver; and his nieces, Rhonda Springborn and Barbara Schmidt.
A memorial Mass for Gary will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano at a later date.
