Obituary for George A. Gipp

George A. Gipp, age 84 of Shawano, went home to heaven on Thursday evening, January 6, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born in Cecil on April 23, 1937, a son of the late William and Hildegard (Horn) Gipp. He attended St. James School then Shawano High School, graduating with the Class of 1954. Following high school, George entered the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Japan and worked in the electrical field. Upon returning from service, George went to work as a cable splicer at Shawano’s Urban Telephone Corporation.

On November 1, 1958, George was united in marriage to the former Doris Way at the First Baptist Church in Green Bay. Following their commencement of marriage the couple made their home in Shawano, and George worked as a butcher at Packerland Packing in Green Bay. He then went to work at Reimers Meat Processing, also in Green Bay. He later worked for Provimi Veal Company in Seymour before retiring in 2001.

George is a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and tinkering with all things mechanical. He was an avid sports fan and a vigilant supporter of the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Doris of Shawano; his children, Neil (Carol) Gipp of Appleton, Mary McNeill of The Woodlands, TX, Keith (Linda) Gipp of Spring, TX, Rita Gipp of Shawano, and Jean (Warren) Hacker of Shawano; five grandchildren, Toni, Casey, Brooke, Molly, and Maria; two brothers, Richard (Beverly) Gipp of Shawano and William Gipp of Spooner; his sister, Alice Zeman of Green Bay; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Stuart, and his niece, Stacia.

A private family service for George will be held with burial taking place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
