Obituary for Harold L. Polzin

Harold L. Polzin, age 84 of Cloverleaf Lakes, Clintonville, died peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021, at The Pines Post-Acute and Memory Care, with his family by his side.

Harold was born March 21, 1937 in the Town of Dupont, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, a son of the late Leonard and Mayme (Beyersdorf) Polzin. He attended school in Marion, graduating from Marion High School with the class of 1955. While in school, Harold lettered in basketball and track. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1955, achieved the rank of Sargent in 1961, and was Honorably Discharged. On October 6, 1956, Harold was united in marriage to Sandra Peterman in Caroline, Wisconsin. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm in the Town of Dupont for three years.

As the family grew, Harold and Sandra needed to find a larger home, so they moved to a home on Cloverleaf Lakes in the Town of Belle Plaine where they lived until the time of their deaths. After leaving farming, Harold worked for Quality Plumbing in Clintonville for a couple of years. While at The Pines, Harold talked about installing the water piping in one of the wings of the facility while he worked for Quality Plumbing. Harold wanted to learn more than just plumbing so he went to work for Emil Kuehl Enterprises, installing bulk milk coolers, associated refrigeration systems, and silo unloaders. At this time, he started to study electrical systems.

After working for Emil Kuehl for approximately four years, Harold went to work at FWD in Clintonville welding aluminum components for fire trucks. Unfortunately, this job didn’t give him the opportunity to meet and talk to people. As luck would have it, Harold had relation who worked at Vertack Lumber in Shawano who asked Harold if he would be interested in selling appliances in the store, and he accepted. Harold sold appliances for a few years, and frequently met with an ABLE Distributing plumbing salesman to order supplies for the store. One day the salesman told Harold ABLE was looking for a salesman to cover all of central Wisconsin from Door County to Tomah. Soon after that conversation, Harold was a plumbing salesman for ABLE Distributing located in Wausau.

One of Harold’s customers was Milton Sawall, owner of Sawall’s Heating and Sheetmetal in Clintonville. As his children were getting older, Harold wanted to get off the road and be home more so he could attend their school functions and sporting events. He and Milton worked out a partnership, and Harold added more business opportunities, such as electrical and refrigeration, to the company. In 1977 Harold and Sandra decided it was time to venture out on their own, so they started Polzin’s Electrical and Heating Service. Harold stayed active with the business until retiring in 2018 at the age of 81. Harold is a member of Christus Lutheran Church in Clintonville. He wanted to be involved with the Town Government, and with Sandra’s help he worked as the Town Clerk for 32 years. He took two years off, and served as Town Supervisor for 16 years, before retiring in the spring of 2021

Survivors include his children, Raymond (Barbara) Polzin of Clintonville, Cindy Lou Polzin of Marion, and Jeff (Judy) Polzin of Clintonville; four grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Polzin, Tara (Kendall Lutchman) Polzin, Emma (Trevor) Laack, and Aiden Polzin; four great-grandchildren, Aaralyn, Brietta, Marleigh, and Banks; and his sister, Florence (Ronnie) Neimuth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra, on September 26, 2016; his parents; and his brother, Warren Polzin.

Funeral services for Harold will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Chrustus Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Pastor Brian Crocker will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the time of service. Burial will take place in Big Falls Cemetery in the Town of Wyoming, Waupaca County.
