Obituary for Ila M. Schultz

Ila Mae Schultz, age 103 of Shawano, passed away at an assisted living facility in Appleton on January 11, 2022.

Ila was born on June 20th, 1918, daughter of Earl and Ester Thompson. On March 20, 1939, she married Leon Schultz. They were married for fifty wonderful years before Leon passed in 1989.

Ila lived a long, joyful, and blessed life. The simplest pleasures are what brought her joy. She loved spending time with her family. Cooking and baking were her favorite pastimes. Whenever someone stopped by for a visit, they were always greeted with a big hug and offered a delicious meal. She enjoyed birds and flowers and could magically make any half dead plant flourish. One memory we will cherish is, even though she had many descendants, without fail she always remembered everyone’s birthdays and sent each one a dollar bill in a birthday card every year. She was still crocheting Afghans and hosting a big family Christmas when she was in her late 90’s. Believe it or not, we even caught her shoveling snow at her house when she was 99! When asked what her secret was for staying healthy and living past 100, she would say” I guess it’s because I say my prayers every day and I mind my own business”! She was so humble, loving, and amazing. We will deeply miss her.

Ila is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Delbert) DeBauch; daughter-in-law, Judy Schultz; son-in-law Jim Brei; grandchildren Tammy Horning, Randy Schultz, Cindy Raasch, Brad Schultz, Traci LaBrosse, Brian DeBauch, Kevin DeBauch, Scott DeBauch, Chad DeBauch, Shawn Brei, and Jamie Brei; nineteen great- grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Ester Thompson; her son, Lee Schultz; her daughter, Darlene Brei; and her brothers, Buck, Lenny, and Allen.

A funeral service for Ila will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 11:00 am at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Ila’s grandson, Pastor Jamie Brei, will officiate. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service.
