Obituary for James E. Betzner
James E. Betzner, age 71 of Bonduel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at ThedaCare Medical Center – Appleton following a brief battle with cancer.
Jim was born May 21, 1950 in Shawano, a son of the late Ewald and Eva (Schwartz) Betzner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He attended St. James grade school then transferred to the Bonduel schools, graduating from Bonduel High School with the Class of 1968. Jim farmed with his family and worked at numerous area feed mills, driving feed trucks. On July 5, 2003 he was united in marriage to Marcelene Boettcher at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.
Jim is a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a certified WIAA official who refereed basketball with his twin brother, Tom, for 53 years. Jim also umpired baseball. He loved sports; if there was a ball involved, Jim was all about it.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelene, of Bonduel; his children, Christopher Betzner of Kaukauna, Matt (Jackie) Betzner of DePere, Jeremy (Kathryn Renard) Hacker of Shawano, Sara (Ricky) Lobato of Colorado Springs, CO, and Laura (Joe) DuChesne of Shawano; his grandchildren, Haylee Huth, Paxton Betzner, Ethan and Elise Lobato, and Amelia, Liam, Draven, and Kasmira DuChesne; his twin brother, Thomas (Becky) Betzner of Shawano; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Betzner; and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Debbie Betzner.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Drengler will officiate. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the church on Friday at 9:00 AM and continue until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants the family prefers memorials to St. James Lutheran School.
