Obituary for Joyce Zimmel
Joyce Zimmel, age 81 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, September 6, 2021 at Green Tree Health Services in Clintonville.
Joyce was born September 9, 1939 in Shawano, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Alice (Meisner) Zimmel. She attended Bonduel schools, graduating from Bonduel High School in 1957. Following high school, Joyce moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she attended airline school. She then moved to Arizona where she worked with her father and brother at Zimmel’s Bakery. When the bakery was sold, Joyce moved to California where she sold airplane parts for many years. She returned to Shawano, where she worked at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery. Joyce loved gardening, and had beautiful gardens. She was an animal lover, too, and loved her cats and dogs.
Survivors include her sister, Mary (Jerald) Strickland, of Shawano; her brother, Gale (Betty) Zimmel of Shawano; two nephews, Steven Olson of Shawano, and David Olson of Sag Harbor, NY; three great-nephews, Brett, Michael, and Aaron Olson; and other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, there will be no public services. Memorials may be made to the Shawano County Humane Society in Joyce’s name.
