Obituary for Kristin R. "Kris" Moderson

She’s gone like the wind and at peace. Kristin “Kris” Moderson passed away Monday, November 22, 2021, following a battle with kidney cancer.

Kris was born in Appleton on July 27, 1955, daughter of Chuck and Audrey Thiel. She graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1973. Kris was a dental assistant for Dr. Gerald Groth for many years, followed by assisting at Dr. Hornseth’s office. She and Mike relocated permanently to Shawano in 2008. Kris had a life-long love for dogs, and as a result opened Kris the Critter Sitter, her pet sitting business.

Those who knew Kris will remember her as kind, thoughtful, somewhat creative, witty, and fun loving. However, being artsy, a skillful seamstress and cook, not so much. She enjoyed reading, music, savoring good desserts, fun in the sun – boating, being on a beach or at the lake. Spending time with friends and family was a highly valued activity - entertaining, happy hours, and always sharing laughs.

Kris is survived by her husband of 39 years, Mike; sister Pam and Lee Harder; brothers Charlie and Cindy Thiel, Greg and Jean Thiel; nephew Chuck Thiel and Melinda Benoit; niece Melissa and Mike Kempka; in-laws Mark and Karen Moderson, Mory Moderson; nephews Mark Moderson and Carmen, Todd Moderson, Jay and Megan Moderson; niece Kim and Ben Lee; several special aunts and uncles; and her cherished and everlasting friends. “All of you brought me immense joy and pleasure sharing the extra ‘bonus time’ with you.”

Kris was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kurt Thiel, and in-laws Merl and Margaret Moderson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Pullman’s Restaurant in Appleton, with a brief service at 2:00.

Memorial donations may be made to your local humane society or the American Cancer Society.

Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting with arrangements. Please share online condolences at www.mickelsonfs.com.

Kris and her family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Yao and the entire Oncology staff at Theda Care.

“So long … it’s been an interesting and wonderful journey.”
