Obituary for Larry A. Gehm

Larry A. Gehm, age 69 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, May 22, 2021 at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay.

Larry was born May 4, 1952 in Shawano, a son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Jandt) Gehm. He attended school in Shawano, and graduated with the Shawano High School class of 1970. Following high school, Larry attended NWTC in Green Bay and became a certified auto technician. He then began working at Chief Pontiac in Bonduel.

On November 24, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to the former Jane Brauer at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He worked as a mechanic, then worked his way up to Service Manager. Larry was employed at Klein Automotive in Clintonville and Buss Chevrolet in Shawano until retiring in 2017.

Larry is a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano where he served as the director of Lay Ministry and as an usher. He was active in civic affairs, serving on the Shawano Police and Fire Commission. He also served with Bonduel and Shawano fire departments for over 33 years, and served as the Shawano Assistant Fire Chief for 20 years. Larry was an avid sports fan, and loved watching the Brewers, Packers, Badgers, Bucks, and Nascar. He enjoyed working in his yard and playing cards. What Larry enjoyed the most was spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Jane, of Shawano; his children, Justin (Lindsey) Gehm of Port Washington, and Kassie (Matt) Schroeder of Bonduel; his grandchildren, Cameron and Madelyn Schroeder, and Parker and Jackson Gehm; his brother, Ken (Mary) Gehm of Green Bay; special cousins, Lois and Jim Flaig, Gayle Springborn, Gloria and Jim Cotter, Cheryl Cheslock, Jim and Sherry Zahn, Kathy and Rick Grunewald, and Bob and Kathy Zahn; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Jared Gehm; and his cousin, Dawn Schutt.

Funeral services for Larry will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Drengler will officiate. Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Visitation will continue on Thursday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in Larry’s name to St. James Lutheran School for tuition assistance.
