Marian L. Anderson, age 97 of Shawano, peacefully entered eternity while at home on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Marian was born April 2, 1924 in Cecil, a daughter of John and Louisa Hinkel of Cecil. She attended grade school in Cecil, and graduated from Shawano High School with the Class of 1941. She then graduated from the Milwaukee School of Business, moved to Shawano, and worked as a bank clerk at Citizen’s State Bank. On October 12, 1946 Marian married her high school sweetheart, Jim Anderson (this was one of her wisest choices!), after he returned from serving in the Pacific Theatre as a Marine during WWII. While raising their two daughters, Marian was the bookkeeper and receptionist for Jim’s Delivery Service.
Jim and Marian were active members of Peace United Church of Christ for many years. They enjoyed numerous activities together, especially their card clubs with many close friends. Marian liked knitting, embroidery, bowling, baking, playing bridge, and the Brewers. For the last nine years she took excellent care of her calico “Kitty”, and they kept each other good company.
Survivors include her daughters, Joan Brackob, and Susan (Don) Schettle; her grandchildren, Christina, Robert, Jesse (Amanda), and Erin; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Rachael, Hadley, Harper, and Harlow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on November 15, 2012; her parents, John and Louisa; her sister, Irene; sisters and brothers-in-law; and many cousins.
In keeping with her wishes, a private family service will be held in honor of Marian.
“Marian’s family would like to thank all of her friends who stayed in touch with her during her last years, Jeni, Marilyn, Myrtle, Matty, Elaine, Dobie, and Lois. They are also very grateful for the excellent TLC given to Marian by her caregivers, Natalie, Kathy, Patti, LouAnne, ThedaCare Hospice and Katy, Christa, Hanna, Roxanne, Shannon, and Chaplain Stuart. You all made it possible for Mom to spend her last years and days in her own home. Most of all, we thank our Lord Jesus for saving her soul and for giving us the mom He did – she made our home a very special place.”
