Obituary for Mary Ann Jahnke

Mary Ann Jahnke, age 91 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, May 10, 2023, in Shawano surrounded by her devoted family.

Mary was born July 31, 1931, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Earl R. and Lorraine (Vomastic) Henke. She attended the Shawano Schools, graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of 1949. On October 2, 1949, she was united in marriage to Carl E. Jahnke at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Mary and Carl spent their entire marriage living in Shawano.

Mary was employed at J.C. Penny in Shawano for many years. She lived a devout and faithful life and was truly an example to her family of living a faith-filled life. She was a servant of the Lord as a member of St. James Church where she served in many positions in the LWML. Mary started the prayer circle at St. James Lutheran Church, taught the Bethel Bible series, and was the first woman to serve in the St. James PTL board. She was most proud of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of the Shawano American Legion Auxiliary and the Navarino Nature Center. She and her husband enjoyed spending their winters in Texas. Carl preceded her in death on June 11, 2017, after 68 blessed years of marriage.

Survivors include four children, Paul (Carolyn) Jahnke of Germantown, Peggy (Richard) Zoeller of Clover Leaf Lakes, Todd (Kim) Jahnke of Shawano, and Toby (Amy) Jahnke of Elkhart Lake;
ten grandchildren, David (Crystal) Jahnke; Julie (Travis) Babich; Jacob (Amy) Hertz; Jessica (Mike) Hertz; Zachary (Andrea) Zoeller; Wesley (Jared) Jahnke; Rochelle (Ryan) Hoffman; Taylor (Matthew) Jacobs; Garrett Jahnke, and Riley Jahnke; eleven great grandchildren, Jayden, Mason, Rya, Alexa, Jaclyn, Joelle, Austin, Zachary Jr., Bennett, Jackson and, Micah; her brother-in-law, Lloyd Jahnke; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Mary was preceded in death by an infant son and an infant daughter.

A funeral service for Mary Ann Jahnke will be held Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Andrew Zobel will officiate. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service.
