Mary H. Plautz, age 100 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Monday morning, December 5, 2022, at Shawano Health Services following a brief illness.

Mary was born August 31, 1922, in Menominee, Michigan, a daughter of the late Matt and Marie (Brasek) Nemetz. She graduated from Menominee High School, then attended the Marvel School of Beauty and Culture in Milwaukee. Mary then went to work as a hair stylist at the Butterfly Beauty Salon in Menominee. On June 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert Plautz in Marinette, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1992. The couple moved to Shawano in 1950, and she went to work at the former Brath Beauty Salon. Mary worked until the age of 93 and was one of the oldest practicing beauticians in the state.

Mary is a member of St. James Lutheran Church. She was good at many things but enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends the most. Mary was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, and enjoyed watching and cheering for the Brewers, the Packers, and the Badgers. She enjoyed traveling, both internationally and around the United States. Mary was fond of watching and feeding the birds.

Survivors include her children, Dutch (Patricia) Plautz of Thornton, and Kathy (Sonny) Pleshek of Shawano; four grandchildren, Jamie Marie (Paul) Machado of Minneapolis, and Adam Pleshek, Gregg (Emily) Pleshek, and Jesse Pleshek, all of the Town of Waukechon; three great grandchildren, Jared Peterson, and Ethan and Henry Pleshek; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Fisher, and Antoinette Kmecheck, and two brothers, John Memetz and James Memetz.

A graveside service for Mary will be held at a later date.
