Obituary for Michael J. "Mikey Joe" Soman

Michael J. “Mikey Joe” Soman, age 57 of Shawano, started his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday evening, January 19, 2022, at Appleton Medical Center where he had been a patient for the past four days.

Michael was born October 30, 1964, in Oakland, California, a son of the late Myron and Dorothea (Waubanascum) Soman. He graduated from Menominee Indian High School in 1982. Following school, he was employed at the casino. Mike served in the Army National Guard from 1987 to 1993. He was currently employed as a housekeeping supervisor at the Menominee Casino Resort. Mike was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing, spending time with his grandchildren, son, and his fiancé, Jill. He had a ready smile, loved to laugh and joke, and sit by the bonfire with a drink and his family.

Michael is survived by his fiancé, Jill Hintz; his sons, Dalton Soman, Nicholas Gonzales, and Joshua Hunstable; his grandchildren, Rayne and Luna Soman, Keyannah Bartz, Imari and Adalaya Gonzales, Sierra, Ariana, Kiana, and baby Hunstable; seven sisters, Lydia Soman-Fink, Kathleen Rose Soman, Cynthia Soman, Lisa Soman, Judy Soman, Penny (Victor) Escalante, and Melissa Soman; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Soman; his special “sister”, Beverly Kessen; his special "brother”, Jody Dixon, Sr.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn (Hunstable) Soman; his parents, his brother, Myron; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Private family services have been held. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.
