Raymond E. “Ray” Mazurek, age 75 of Shawano, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 18, 2022, at his home. He had battled cancer for the past two and a half years.
Ray was born in Chicago, IL on March 7, 1947, a son of the late Edward and Helen (Jablonski) Mazurek. He attended St. Tribius Catholic Grade School, then Gage Park High School, graduating with the Class of 1965. Following high school, he served in the United States Army for three years. Ray was stationed in Viet Nam where he worked as a mechanic.
Upon returning from service, Ray returned to Chicago where he worked at Montgomery Ward. He worked in distribution before working his way up to Account Representative, a position he held until Montgomery Ward closed. He then went to work at Jay’s Potato Chips. On September 11, 1976, he was united in marriage to the former Audrey Tomko at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Chicago. The couple lived and worked in Chicago until retiring in 2016, at which time they moved to Shawano. Ray loved to fish. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey, of Shawano; his brother-in-law, Larry (Chris) Tomko, of Henderson, Nevada; three cousins, Geri, Lillian, and Laverne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Ray will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022, at 11:00 am at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Deacon James Lonick will officiate. Entombment will take place at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will begin on Monday at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service. AmVets Post #10 will conduct military honors at the funeral home.
