Obituary for Robert W. "Bob" Nordin

Robert W. “Bob” Nordin, age 87 of the Town of Wescott, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, September 24, 2021, at his home.

Bob was born April 1, 1934 in West Allis, Wisconsin, a son of Robert W. and Norma (Drefahl) Nordin. Bob attended school in Menominee, Michigan, then transferred to West Division High School in Milwaukee for his junior and senior years, graduating with the Class of 1952. He then attended the Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology at Platteville for two years. On June 19, 1954 Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna V. Zimmerman, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple made their home in Shawano, spending very little time apart over the course of 67 years. For the past 20 years they enjoyed wintering in Arizona.

Bob was employed by Bill Pedersen for five years where he earned his professional licensure as a Certified Surveyor in the State of Wisconsin. He continued in the profession for many years, always having a hand in the business known as R.W. Nordin & Associates, Inc. In 1980, Bob and Donna moved to a hobby farm where together they raised beef cattle and crops. They later built & managed Mooseyard Storage before eventually retiring.

Bob is a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano and a lifetime Green Bay Packers fan. He was a founding member and past president of the Shawano Lake Lions, a charter member of the Shawano County Conservation Club, a member of the Shawano Fish & Game Club, an active member of Acres for Recreation, and Shawano Club. The Nordin family enjoyed shooting trap together. Bob also owned and loved working on stock cars. In his later years, he enjoyed restoring old cars. His first restoration was a 1919 Model T Touring Sedan and thus began his passion for restoring old cars. Bob had roughly a dozen old cars in his collection. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren who all attended college.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Donna, of the Town of Wescott; his children, Mike (Sandra) Nordin, Scott (Mary) Nordin, and Nola (Jim) Van Zeeland, all of the Town of Wescott; six grandchildren, Nick (Brenda) Nordin of the Town of Wescott, Heather (Robert) Smith of Shawano, Wendy (Jason) Antoine of Larsen, WI, Tim (Kelsey) Nordin of Shawano, Andy (Dianna) Van Zeeland of Seattle, WA, and Lacey (Michael) Schiel of Cedarburg, WI; eleven great-grandchildren, Leah, Jack, Lila, Brody, and Maverick; Cecelia, Marshall and Tristan; and Camden, Raelle, and Kai; a half-sister Dr. Karen Lindsay of Philadelphia, PA; his brother-in-law, Dohn (Carol) Zimmerman; his nieces, Lorrie, Lynda, Sandra, Darci, and Staci, and his nephew, Dean.. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Patty Nordin.

A funeral service for Bob will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Drengler will officiate. Interment will take place in Lake Drive Cemetery, Town of Wescott. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the church and continue until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to St James Lutheran School in Bob’s name.
