Obituary for Rosalie M. Carlton

Rosalie M Carlton, age 82 of the City of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, December 31, 2021, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano.
Rose was born March 18, 1939, in Birnamwood, daughter of the late Norman and Marie (Schumacher) Henderson. She grew up outside of Birnamwood on the family farm. Her sister shared about Rose’s love of horses and animals even at a young age, and what a good farmer she was. Rose graduated from Birnamwood High School with the Class of 1957. On November 30, 1957, she married William (Bill) E. Carlton at the Congregational Church in Birnamwood. They were blessed with six sons and worked hard on their farm most of their lives. Bill died in 1981 of cancer at the age of forty-six, but Rose prevailed on the farm with the help of friends and family. After leaving the family farm in the Town of Herman, she continued to milk cows for others. Rose had several knee replacements which ended her farming career. She then worked for Shawano County Department of Human Services caring for others.

Rose had a heart of gold and would help anyone or anything in need, even though she was tough as nails with a quick wit. After she retired, Rose loved gardening and even had a photo book of the flowers she grew. Rose loved cooking and trying new recipes, reading, and doing puzzle books. She was an avid Packer fan. She enjoyed calling Keith after the game armchair quarterbacking. She will be missed by many friends and family from Shawano, Birnamwood, Tilleda, Green Bay, and the surrounding area.

Rose is survived by: her sons Nathan (Joanne) of Little Suamico, Keith (Bretta) of Shawano, Donald of Little Suamico, Roger (Brenda) of Bayside, and Neal (Sylvelin) of Green Bay; her grandchildren Ryan, Amy, Brooke, Chessa, Megan, Courtney, Sawyer (Rena), Olivia (Dylan), Elizabeth, Sophia, Laura, Nadine (Kyale), and Mitch. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren Rylan, Axton, Radley, Onni, Odessa, Deionee, Jayden, Haley, and Eliana; her brother Vilas Henderson; and her sister Donna Szews. She was preceded in death by: her husband; their son Little Bill at age 2 months; her parents; her brother, Orville Henderson; her sister, Karen Matsche; and a daughter-in-law, Laurie.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano, with a brief Service of Remembrance following.

In lieu of flowers and plants, donations can be made in the name of Rose Carlton to the Shawano County Humane Society.
