Rosalind F. Westphal, age 93 of Shawano, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, February 24, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano.
Rosalind was born in Dickenson, North Dakota on June 25, 1929, a daughter of the late Rev. Theodore and Gertrude (Zuberbier) Hilgendorf. She attended Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, Nebraska, and began her teaching career in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She married Royce Truttschel on August 18, 1951, and the couple remained married for seventeen years. Rosalind taught school in Sheboygan for many years, and later in Milwaukee before moving to Shawano in 1983. She taught at St. James Lutheran School where she was also the music and choir director. Rosalind retired from teaching in 1994 but continued as the organist at St. James Lutheran Church as well as St. Jakobi Lutheran Church until her retirement in 2014.
On July 4, 1992, Rosalind was united in marriage to Kenneth Westphal at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She was a good and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church. Music was her life and brought her great joy. She was an accomplished organist for 80 years. Rosalind was devoted to the Orphan Grain Train program at her church. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Kenneth, of Shawano; her son, John (Peggy) Truttschel of Cedar Grove, WI; two step-daughters, Diane (Rory Schutte) Selle of Eau Claire, WI and Denise (Mark) Remmers of O’Brien, FL; three grandsons, Aaron (Lucy) Truttschel of Madison, WI, Nolan (Teresa) Truttschel of Cudahy, WI; and Andrew (Cherokee) Remmers of Jennings, FL; her granddaughter, Tami (Chris) Yeager of Chippewa Falls, WI; four great-grandchildren, Mayson Tester, Brett Remmers, Ruby Truttschel, and Carley Yeager; her brother, Eugene (Mary Ann) Hilgendorf of Warrenton, MO; her sister, Eunice (Ken) Sands of Beloit, WI; her sister-in-law, Clare Hilgendorf of Appleton; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Victor Hilgendorf, Rev. Hilbert (Marion) Hilgendorf, and Erhardt Hilgendorf; her sister, Gertrude (William) Bessert; her brother-in-law, Curtis Westphal; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Pierce.
A memorial service for Rosalind will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Andrew Zobel will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am and continue until the time of service at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials to St. James Lutheran Church or Wolf River Lutheran High School in Shawano.
