Obituary for Sandra Grace "Sandy" Habeck

Sandra Grace “Sandy” Habeck, age 85 of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, October 17, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Sandy passed away on the same day in October as her mother, 27 years later.

Sandy was born November 26, 1936, at home in Shawano, a daughter of the late Harry and Inez (Buelter) Pahlow. She attended St. James Lutheran Grade School and Shawano High School. On September 4, 1954, Sandy was united in marriage to Leland C. “Lee” Habeck at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2021.

Sandy was a stay-at-home mom while her children were growing up. When they got older, Sandy waitressed at the Samar Supper Club in Thornton, then as a dietary aide at the Shawano Hospital for many years, retiring early in 2000. Following her retirement, she returned to work as a cook at Paiser’s Oak Haven. Sandy was a member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond where she served with the Ladies Aide. Sandy was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed bowling, a good movie, and most of all, preparing Sunday supper meals for her family. Sandy and Lee enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, and she always looked forward to the annual family trip up north. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patti (Greg) Samson of Shawano, Brenda (fiancé Russ Zirbel) Stuber of the Town of Richmond, Terri (Jeff) Schuettpelz of the Town of Richmond, Lori (Ron) Bystol of Shawano, and Scott (Stacy) Habeck of Bradenton, FL; her former son-in-law, Gene Stuber; her grandchildren, Lena (Bruce) Johnson, Tony (Jenny) Stuber, Jay (Stephanie) Schuettpelz, Jed (Brittney Cotter) Schuettpelz, Nick (Amber) Bystol, Brea (Lee) Carroll, Alexandra Habeck, Jacob Habeck, Joey (Maddie) Custode, Amanda (fiancé Michael Woods) Custode, and Nick Custode; nine great-grandchildren, Ella, Connor, Ian, Nora, Sawyer, Lucas, Ava, Olive, and Brecken; brothers-in-law, David Habeck of the Town of Richmond and John Schultz of Loyal, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by her grandson, Gregory Habeck; her brother, Edward (Bernice) Pahlow; her sister, Shirley Schultz; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Esther) Habeck and Vernal (Shirley) Habeck; and two sisters-in-law, Barb Habeck and Elaine (Lloyd) Darling.

A memorial service for Sandy will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the Town of Richmond. Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt will officiate. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am at the church and continue until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred to St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in Sandy’s name.
