Obituary for Sidney C. "Sid" Dodge

Sidney C. “Sid” Dodge, age 89, formerly of Keshena, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 9, 2022, at Shawano Health Services where he had been a resident for the past three weeks.

Sid was born November 18, 1932, in Keshena, a son of the late Henry and Josephine (Wishecoby) Dodge. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Keshena through fifth grade, then transferred to Shawano schools graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school, Sid attended Carroll College for two years before entering the U.S. Marine Corps. He served from March 4, 1952, as a Radar Equipment Foreman in Quantico, VA before being honorably discharged on March 8, 1954.

When Sid returned from service, he was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department as a supervisor overseeing Tribal monies and Social Security, working in Chicago, IL and Denver, CO. Sid was married to the former Joan Frechette, and they raised their family in Denver. Joan preceded him in death. Following his retirement, Sid remained in Denver. In his younger years Sid was an excellent athlete. He enjoyed working with computers. Sid was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena.

Survivors include his three daughters, Mary Kay Dodge, Janalee (Roger) Balogh, and Jill (Craig) Peirce, all of Denver; his son, Christopher (Nancy) Dodge of LaCrosse; five grandchildren; his brother, Richard A. Dodge of Keshena; his sisters, Carol Dodge, Faye (Tony) Waupachick, Kathleen (James) Kaquatosh all of Keshena; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Dodge and Roger Dodge; his sisters, Gwen Washinawatok, Sandra King, Constance Goetz, Glenda Tahmahkera, and two sisters in infancy; his stepmother, Josephine Duquain; and his stepbrother, Arthur Chapman.

A funeral service for Sidney will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Fr. Nonito Barra will officiate. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and continue until the time of service. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Vets of the Menominee Nation will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
