Obituary for Steven A. "Ernie" Buettner

Steven A. “Ernie” Buettner, age 59 of Shawano, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, August 19, 2021, of natural causes.

Steve was born March 3, 1962 in Shawano, a son of Ernest and Vanice (Rades) Buettner. He attended St. James Lutheran School, and graduated from Shawano High School with the Class of 1980. He then attended UW-Plattville. Steve worked in construction for several years before going to work at Thilmany Paper Mill (now know as Alstrom-Munksjo Paper Mill) in Kaukauna where he worked for nearly 25 years. On August 26, 1989, Steve was united in marriage to the former Kimberly Abbey at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Steve is a member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was a huge sports fan and was inducted into the Shawano Community High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2018. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and taking Sunday drives in his Camaro. Above all he was very proud of his family, especially his children.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Kimberly, of Shawano; his twins, Jeffrey (fiancé Anna) Buettner and Dana Buettner, of Shawano; his brother, Todd (Denise) Buettner, and their son, Jacob, of Shawano; his brother-in-law, Kent (Tina) Abbey, and their daughter, Alissa, of Apex, NC; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jeffrey Buettner in infancy; special uncle, Dale Buettner; his mother-in-law, Virginia "Ginny" Abbey; and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service for Steve will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Drengler will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 and continue until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in Steve’s name to the St. James Radio Broadcast Fund or the Disabled Hunt organization.
