Obituary for Sylvia E. Hoffman

Sylvia E. Hoffman, age 69 of the Town of Navarino, Shawano County, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, January 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born December 21, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter of the late William V. and Doris M. (Allison) Roeske. She attended high school in River Falls and later graduated from UW-Stout in 1973. On June 12, 1976, she was united in marriage to Donald F. Hoffman in St. Paul, MN. After their nuptials, the couple lived in Green Bay for a year before settling in Navarino, where they built a house, and raised a family. She put her bachelor’s degree to work as a home economist at the UW-Extension office in Antigo, as a high school teacher at Bonduel High School, and eventually homeschooling her children. She also owned her own business, helping to supply educational materials to countless homeschooling families.

Faith in God and Jesus played a vital role in Sylvia’s life. That faith, along with her fighting spirit, devoted husband, family, friends, and a team of world class medical professionals helped her far exceed the odds as she battled her medical diagnosis over the last decade. Music was incredibly special to Sylvia, it helped her express her faith, motivated her, and helped her celebrate those small accomplishments that, when added up, kept her smiling. She enjoyed cooking and baking, cheering for the Packers, and bringing a “special” sense of humor to all situations. She loved riding her horses, and occasionally her motorcycle. She loved her husband, her children, and her four legged “children” and “grandchildren”. She had a passion for helping others and volunteering, including many years of service to the Shawano County 4-H program. She leaves behind many beloved friends whom she considered family.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Donald Hoffman of the Town of Navarino; her son, Jason (Amber) Hoffman of Plymouth, MN; her daughter, Sabrina (Kasey) Schwietzer of the Town of Navarino. She is further survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, FOMS, and cherished friends.

A funeral service for Sylvia will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 12:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Pastor Moira Finley will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until the time of service.
