Verna M. Raddant, age 87 of Shawano, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Paiser’s Oakhaven with her family by her side.
Verna was born on May 8, 1934 in Shawano, a daughter of the late Henry and Lillian (Meisner) Roloff. She attended Shawano High School. On August 29, 1953 Verna was united in marriage to Donald “Donnie” Raddant at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano, where she remained a faithful member. Donnie preceded her in death on September 29, 2015. Verna was employed as a secretary for the State Superintendent of Schools, and also worked at JC Penney in Shawano.
Verna was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended hundreds of baseball and softball games in her lifetime. Most games involved having Donnie’s uniform’s laid out on the bed waiting for him to “jump into” (as Verna always said) when he got home from work so the family could make it to the game on time. Not only did she attend Donnie’s games, she also attended those of her sons and grandsons including Little League to American Legion to BABA games. Verna and Donnie also attended many choir and band concerts, music competitions, spelling bees, plays, dance recitals, etc. which their grandchildren and great-granddaughter performed or competed in from grade school all the way through college.
Left to cherish Verna’s memory are her daughter, Kristy (George) Kehr of Shawano; her son, Randy (Dawn) Raddant of Shawano; her daughter-in-law, Jan (special friend Brent Steichen) Raddant of Shawano; eleven grandchildren, Theron (special friend Alicia Klein) Kehr, Jocelyn (John) Kehr Sparby, Brandi (Mark Miller) Raddant, Bobbi (Chad) Griffin, Ben Raddant, Nicole (Jeff) Korth, Ashley (Josh) Wheeler, Jordan (special friend Katie Dickert) Raddant, Terance and Jerome Waubanascum, and Jacob Klatt; eight great-grandchildren, Atticus, Lotus, Dashiell, Ella, Samuel, Jax, Aaron and Brock; two sisters-in-law, Edith Raddant and Sally Raddant, both of Shawano; special friends, Pat Gruetzmacher and Michelle Heling of Shawano; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Donnie; her son, Rick Raddant; four brothers, Elmer (Ethel) Roloff, Arleigh (Elnora) Roloff, Harmon “Pat” (Sylvia) Roloff, and Ervin (Umeko) Roloff; three sisters, Evelyn (Clarence) Laatsch, Mildred (Fred “Fritz”) Clark, and Sylvia (George) Brunn; and her brothers-in-law, Roger and Dennis (Mickey) Raddant.
Funeral services for Verna will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Pastor Mark Drengler will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Paul Stony Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:30 AM and continue until the hour of service.
